1. Avoid extremes in pricing: look for a balance between price and quality

Price is the first thing people notice, but it’s the most dangerous factor to rely on.

The “cheap” trap: An excessively low price almost always means a lack of experience, cheap equipment without a backup set in case of breakdown, and an inability to work in challenging conditions (such as in the dim lighting of a restaurant). As a result, you’ll end up with flat, dark, or blurry shots.

The illusion of premium quality: At the same time, the highest price on the market isn’t an automatic guarantee of a masterpiece. Often, that price simply reflects an overinflated personal brand, pretentiousness, or expensive advertising.

Look for the “happy medium.” A good professional knows the value of their time, equipment, and responsibility, so their services are priced appropriately for the quality—without undercutting the market or unjustifiably inflating prices.

2. Be sure to ask to see the full series (the entire wedding)

Instagram and online portfolios serve as a showcase. Photographers post their 10–20 best shots there — images collected over years of work or taken under ideal conditions during creative workshops with models. This misleads clients: you might think your entire wedding will look the same, but in reality, you could end up with mediocre photos.

During a meeting or in your correspondence, say directly: “Please show me 2–3 complete wedding photo galleries, from the preparations through to the end of the evening.” You need to see how the photographer captures real people (not models) and how they handle changing lighting conditions — from the morning sun at the hotel to the marriage registry office and the dimly lit banquet hall with lively dancing. If the photographer refuses to show complete series, that’s a major reason to end the conversation.

3. Recommendations and Verification: How to Search If You’re in Another Country

The ideal scenario is to hire someone your close friends or acquaintances have already worked with. But if you’ve recently moved, live in another country (for example, if you’re planning a wedding in Tbilisi), and don’t yet have a wide network of contacts there, the task becomes more complicated. However, you can still check their reputation, and here’s how:

  • Independent platforms: Don’t trust screenshots of reviews on a photographer’s profile—they’re easy to fake. Check out independent platforms: reviews on Google Maps, specialized wedding websites, and major city-based platforms where moderation policies prevent negative reviews from being deleted.
  • The “Tags” section on Instagram: Go to the photographer’s profile and open the tab showing posts where other users have tagged them. Take a look at what real brides are posting. Lively posts and heartfelt thanks on newlyweds’ accounts will tell you more about the photographer than their own feed.
  • Here’s a straightforward question: If you really like the portfolio, don’t hesitate to send a direct message to one of the brides the photographer has shot (and tagged in the photos). Ask her directly: “Hi! Can you tell me what it was like to work with this photographer? Did he deliver the photos on time, and are you happy with the results?” Most brides will be happy to share their real-life experiences.

My work standards: transparency and firm guarantees

Based on my own negative experience, I’ve developed a system for working with clients so that you feel completely safe at every stage:

Complete Photo Series: Without any unnecessary questions, I’ll show you my actual, full photo reports from real weddings. It’s important to me that you see consistently high quality in every shot—not just beautiful portraits.

Contract and Fixed Terms: We clearly specify the deadlines for delivering the materials and all the details of the work. The date is secured on the calendar after a transparent deposit of 100 GEL is paid. Technical reliability: On location, I work with top-of-the-line equipment and a mandatory backup set of gear, eliminating any risk of unforeseen circumstances.

Wedding photography is all about trust. You should be able to relax and enjoy your day, confident that you’ll end up with a beautiful, magazine-worthy, and authentic story of your family.
